Why is Asian ancestry understudied compared to European ancestry?

Western personal genomics services such as 23andMe, Family Tree DNA, and AncestryDNA give not-so-great results for individuals of Asian descent. I've noticed that overall, East Asian ancestry has been studied much less compared to European ancestry. Why is this? Could it be the lack of reference samples, or simply because not many people in Asia know about genealogical DNA testing?

I'm happy WeGene is the first company that focuses on testing Chinese / East Asians. Will we get out first beta results for ancestry composition in a few (2-3?) weeks?

First of all, there are actually no available reference data for ancestry comparison. 1000 genome, HGDP or other international projects have only included very few Chinese populations. Researchers in China would very much like to sequence individuals for medical purpose, and they usually only report what they find but seldom publish raw genetic data. Chinese populations, not like Americans or Europeans, are actually very “pure”, especially Han Chinese. There are probably no such strong desires for ordinary people to trace their ancestry.
